Historic Four-Square Residence

Basement Remodel

This late 1800s historic Victorian and Craftsman influenced four-square home located in Denver CO involved renovation design work which occurred in phases.  This initial phase consisted of a basement remodel including lighting design, finish and fixture specification and space planning as well as final furniture layout and staging.  The choices were congruent with the homes original historic story and color palette.

Brandy and the client worked together to ensure all the  design elements acknowledged existing building finishes including the original brick, wood, glass and metals, as well as utilized existing, new and re-purposed fixtures already on-site and from architectural selvage yards. This included but was not limited to the reuse of old doors converted into pocket doors, an antique dresser converted into a vanity sink, antique light fixtures and the use of an original claw foot tub with refinished feet.

Retro Bathroom Renovation

This bathroom re-design implemented a period-inspired lemon yellow wall hue, black and white marble octagon floor tile and porcelain subway wall tile. The shower was fit with new fittings and a new pedestal sink was added which was rescued from a local architectural selvage yard. Wood wainscot was added and all wood re-finished.

Retro Kitchen Renovation

This phase of the four-square historic Denver CO home project involved the renovation of the main level bathroom and kitchen. These spaces had apparently been added to the home in later years.  Since existing features were reminiscent of the Art Deco style, this was carried throughout the new designs. This also aided in conveying a clear division between the older and the newer spaces in the home, creating a visual historical time line.

Brandy and the client worked together to finish the kitchen space. Elements for the kitchen included refinished soft yellow powder coated metal cabinets and a vent hood, a new-found retro antique stove, new paint colors, refinished wood flooring, a new glass tile back splash design, new and refinished fixtures, fittings, and lighting as well as stainless steel and the addition of butcher block counters.
